Affordable Connectivity Program Discounts
The whole premise of the ACP is to ensure that the internet becomes more accessible to all individuals regardless of financials. The ACP has a range of discounts available to all SSI beneficiaries, including:
- Up to $30 per month towards internet service
- Up to $75 for individuals on qualifying tribal lands
- Up to $100 towards purchasing either a laptop, desktop, or tablet
With these discounts, the ACP hopes to make internet access more achievable so that there is no longer a barrier between a family’s finances and their ability to complete school, work, or other tasks.
Possible Recipients of the ACP
ACP recipients could be any household or individual who receives SSI. For SSI purposes, ACP is not calculated as part of income. Other assistance programs may also make someone eligible to receive ACP benefits. Those additional assistance programs could include:
- Medicaid
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Lifeline
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
In addition to these other assistance programs, you may also qualify if your income is equivalent to or less than 200% of the federal poverty line. Further research may be necessary if you believe you may be eligible for ACP assistance. As in most cases, there are exceptions to the standard qualifying factors and your household may be one of them.
