Serving all of Georgia

Alpharetta Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Lawyer

To find out if you are eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or if you were denied SSI benefits, contact disability attorney Sara Khaki at our law offices in Atlanta, Alpharetta or Marietta.

Both adults and children may qualify for SSI benefits if they are found disabled and their household size meets the income and asset requirements.

SSI payments can provide critical money to disabled individuals who cannot afford basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing. Countless Alpharetta residents are unable to pay rent or house payments and many are facing foreclosure. Others have exhausted any remaining savings since they had to stop work.

Supplemental Security Income Attorney Serving All of Alpharetta

If you believe you might be able to qualify for SSI, contact our experienced team of disability professionals to get the personalized assistance you need.

You’ll have a much better opportunity to win these disability benefits with an experienced SSI lawyer helping you than trying to go it alone. Wherever you reside in Alpharetta, we can assist you.

Like food stamps, SSI benefits are need based. SSI is funded through general tax revenues. This is different from Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits, which are based on a person’s work history and funded through the payroll tax.

But much like SSDI benefits, the application and appeals process for SSI is very long and tedious. Most people are denied with the initial application and will need to attend an administrative law hearing before an administrative law judge to prove their disability.

Not only can we help you with your initial application and determine your eligibility, but we will also work closely with Social Security and your medical providers to expedite your application and appeals process.

How Much Money Does SSI Provide?

Each year, the maximum amount of SSI benefits an eligible person can receive is adjusted with the Cost-of-Living-Adjustment (COLA) which is affected by inflation.

As of January 2015, the maximum monthly Supplemental Security Income benefit amount is $733 for an individual, and $1,100 for a couple. The amount of SSI benefits an individual can receive is offset by the amount of household income.

The basic monthly SSI payment is the same in Alpharetta as it is nationally. Yet different states have different rules regarding how much monthly income you can earn and still get SSI.

Do You Qualify for SSI?

In your initial consultation, we will inform you about your eligibility for benefits. Briefly put, to be eligible for SSI, one must show that they have little or no income and few resources. The value of the items you own must be less than $2000 if you are single, or less than $3000 for a couple. This generally does not include the value of your home or car, or certain other assets.

The applicant also must meet social security’s definition of “disability.” These rules are different for children and adults.
